The whale look shows that children are top priority. The parent whale sheltering the baby whale shows compassion, caring and the attitude to do whatever it takes to protect children.
~ Seattle Children's researcher
On Sept. 16, 2008, we changed our name from Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center to Seattle Children's. We did this to pay tribute to the city in our Northwest region that we call home and to distinguish us from children's hospitals in other cities around the country.
Being clear that we're the children's hospital in Seattle - and not the one in Denver or Chicago - is more important than ever as we gain national recognition for improving pediatric healthcare, delivering excellent results and doing groundbreaking research.
In addition to being one of the top 10 children's hospitals in the nation, we want the world to know that we also conduct research to find cures and raise money to fund critical needs. That's why we placed the words "Hospital," "Research," and "Foundation" below our name.
They're quintessentially Northwest, inspired by regional artwork. Our new logo depicts the compassion and trust that can be found in any number of relationships familiar to us at Children's, including parent and child, family and community, hospital and generous supporter or care provider and patient. Plus, they are already featured prominently throughout our hospital.
These three simple words sum up the story of what Seattle Children's is here to do. They speak to what inspires us, and to our aspirations for the future.
I automatically feel that my child will be viewed with individual care and attention based on that image.

After more than 100 years and five name changes, our mission to prevent, treat and eliminate pediatric disease remains the same. We are committed to providing care to all children in our region regardless of their family's ability to pay.
